Success story of being tuned to the frequency of love & rendezvousing with the famous Brazilian singer Bebel Gilberto. Surprise after surprise.
I waited to write this post until I had the time to really give it the energy and attention that it deserved. Waiting until I was in complete alignment with a night that feels like an epic dream.
We walked into the Neptune concert hall on Feb. 20th, in Seattle’s University District, after enjoying some delicious gyros and baklava with my sweetie. We had been looking forward to seeing the radiant and famous Brazilian singer Bebel Gilberto for a few months now. We had found about her with her album “Tanto Tempo by Bebel Gilberto on Amazon” and when we did we were hooked, getting every album after that. Her latest divine piece of work is called, Tudo by Bebel Gilberto on Amazon
We were shocked when there were just a few folks in the front row seats of the concert hall; I don’t know why ’cause this is how we roll. There were loads of people in the seats after the front row, but we thought maybe they were reserved…. they were, for US! We sat smack dab right in front of where the microphone was and eagerly awaited the mistress of groovy electronic bossa nova and so much more. As she sauntered out with her sultry Being emanating such feminine power, I was in awe. I felt like a VIP looking up at her soft features and angelic petite body. I was imagining her in the outfit that she wore during her concert in Rio (clip below). The flowing red dress she was wearing rippled gently in the breeze and blended with the ocean waves in the background = entrancing. Not to mention the adorable dimple that shows up when she smiles – I’m a sucker for dimples.
We were swept away by her talented singing and band. Then something fun happened, she went to the audience and asked if someone would like to request one of her songs, however they requested a song from her parent’s repertoire (who are also very famous Brazilian artists). Well, I was so glad that she said, in a playful sassy way, that she was here to play her own music and that we wouldn’t want her to come and play “Bruce Springsteen”. Everybody laughed. Go girl, I could feel the empowerment radiating from her. Thank you Bebel for being an inspiration to follow your passions, separate from others desires or from wanting to please. She is the leading edge of Brazilian music and her new music shows it! I’m just sayin’! She did end up feeling inspired to sing her version of “Summer Samba (So Nice)”, which is a beautiful bossa nova song originally written in 1964.
Well, now I knew there was an opening for requests. I waited until I was inspired and she was between songs, then yelled out “Tranquilo”! Well, she and her band decided to play it (squeal)! I hit the jackpot and was jumping up and down with glee and hugging my beloved! What an exquisite song, one that I had spent many nights listening to and singing to myself while I was pregnant with my daughter. As Bebel sang it I was overtaken by a sense of peace, calm, and (of course) tranquility.
I am on top of the world and reaching new heights with every note, every flip of her black wavy locks, and every point of her finger. She sings a couple more songs and THEN, as she is singing one of them, she walks over, kneels down right in front of me, and slowly brings her outstretched palm down in front of me. I rest my hand in hers, she slowly brings it up to her cheek and gently caresses her face with my skin. We are looking in each others eyes as she sings. Did I mention that a world famous siren is looking in my eyes while she sings to me???? She then kisses my hand gently and what seems like several minutes (maybe hours) pass, but I have no idea! I love that for the rest of the night and into the next day I could smell her perfume on my hand and it would bring me right back to that enchanted rendezvous. I was really wishing that I knew more Portuguese because I had no clue what the actual words of the song meant, but I definitely knew the vibration of the message and that’s what counts anyway.
We danced the rest of the show feeling drunk on love, with her beautiful voice shimmering over her talented musicians, soothing every part of my Soul. When the show was over, I was so high on life that I couldn’t imagine going home. I was bouncing off the walls, so we decided to wait for her to come out so that I could get a picture with her. When Bebel walked through the door you could tell, by the way she carries herself, that she is a bright star. Her energy was bubbly, relaxed, and appreciative. Seattle was the end of her tour and I am sure she was feeling a great sense of relief at finishing. What a fun evening. Her music is incredibly uplifting and playful and that is what I told her when she pointed for me to come sit next to her. I felt so honored to get a Brazilian style kiss on each cheek and a hug. She told me I was kind and beautiful. I know she said some other sweet things which I wish I could remember, but I was too excited. It was just wonderful to feel the essence of someone who is expanding herself, living her passion, reaching beyond, creating dynamic music, collaborating with amazing artists, and darn beautiful.
What an inspiration to me on my own path as an artist, writer, and speaker. I wish her the best in her thriving career and the best in everything she engages in. I did get a picture with her, as you can see (featured photo at the top) and I look forward to many more. I love imagining being in Rio with my Beloved as her special guest and watching her LIVE with those soft oceans waves behind her, with her sultry voice and features, with her funny comments between songs, with the stars above, and the magic of the city in the air. Attending an after party with her and her band would be awesome too, getting to know what her latest passions are and making new memories. In the interim, I will just continue to replay in my mind and heart this dreamy evening with fondness and appreciation. I love how the Universe surprised and delighted me every step of the evening, once I chose love. I am blessed to be alive and be in love with life! Blessings to Bebel on her leading edge journey!
